Qualitative Education Volume 6 No.1

This paper was designed to look at acquisition of skills and competences by technical education teachers as instrument for national growth in Nigeria. The paper x-rayed the national policy on education and the same time, looked at the present implementation programme on ground in different vocational and technical education institutions in Nigeria. The components examined in the implementation programmes are the teacher, skills and competencies acquired by teachers, methods of instruction, policy thrust and reformation and strategies for human resource development.

Qualitative Education Volume 5 No.1

The school is generally known as a place where learning of positive behaviour and good morals prevail. Apart from inculcating training of the mind and character observation of laws rules and regulations are held at high esteem. The pupils/students are also expected to obey the order from their teachers and school authorities and to maintain an established standard of behaviour. It follows that any pupil/student that disobeys the rules and regulations of the school becomes subject to be punished.

The major purpose of this paper was to discuss the provision in the National Policy on Education for teachers‟ acquisition of competences required for teaching the processes of science and to relate them with science teacher‟s practices in the field. It was found that the competences practiced by science teachers in the field run short of the provisions in he National Policy on Education for imparting skills of processes of science to students.

The paper presents the Re-appraisal of strategies in teacher education on how to achieve academic excellence for national development. The influence of qualitative teachers in the implementation of educational programmes is considered the most important concept in this paper. Teacher Education is to equip prospective teachers with the knowledge, attitude, behaviors and skills they require in the classrooms.

Maladaptive behaviour can be brought under control. A child may be regarded as maladjusted when he is developing in ways that have a bad effect on himself or his fellows and cannot without help being remedied by his parents or teachers and other adults in ordinary contract with them. This paper, therefore spelt out some ways of using the knowledge of educational psychology to identify and remedy maladaptive behaviours in the classroom, with a view to making teaching and learning easy and interesting for the teacher and the students.

Fisherfolk can be described as communities of fisherfolk that move from one place to another in search of livelihood. Most of whom are illiterates.
